Hello,

            We explore the world around us on a physical level. Students learn content and also work hands on in laboratory settings to understand the things. 

 

Experimental Chemistry: is an intro to chemistry. We will go over some of the same ideas as the Chemistry students in a much more hands-on setting. Major goals of this class are to promote understanding of chemistry ideas and to become familiar with the scientific method and writing a lab report.

Chemistry: We will explore chemical states of matter, chemical reactions, and how we measure and control chemical reactions. This is an intense course where students will get the background knowledge of today's chemical breakthroughs and they will need to start thinking like scientists. Main goals: Students will be able to write a lab report, students will understand what matter is made up of and why it reacts the way that it does.  

Chemistry II: is an extension of the normal chemistry class. We explore further into our chemistry book than we were able to do in the first year. Laboratory work will be much more independent and will require more research and reasoning than in the normal chemistry class. We will also start on Organic Chemistry so that students can get an idea of what it looks like.

Conceptual Physics: This is a class focused on the introduction of physics concepts. This class pushes students to see the physical laws that act around them all the time. We create a lot in this course so that students can test their ideas. Major goals of this course are to get students to question why things around them act the way that they do. 

Physics: We will explore the physical world and understand its laws and concepts. This class is math intense, and you need to have your own calculator that you are used to. We will explore Newton’s laws, motion in all of its many forms, work, and energy. Main goals: Students will understand how to calculate outcomes of various situations, and will understand the fundamentals of physics.

STEM I and II
This course has different sections. There will be a timeline and goals for each section. The topics are very different so if you do not connect to the first topic you might have a better connection to the second. 

In addition, I am the sponsor of Science club (Nerd Herd). We meet once a week where students learn new technologies and bridge the gap from tech consumers to tech creators. We work to prepare for our April competition the IT-Olympics held in Ames, IA.
