Fort Dodge, Iowa, native Dale Brand was a long time teacher and wrestling coach at Clarion High School in Clarion, Iowa. Dale's exploits as a competitor and coach are surpassed by few in the history of the sport. A state champion at Fort Dodge High, a national champion for Cornell College, and a berth on the 1936 U.S. Olympic team are among his career highlights. As a coach for nearly thirty years at Clarion, Brand led one of the most successful and respected programs in the wrestling hungry state of Iowa. Brand coached the Cowboys to fourteen conference crowns in the rugged North Central Conference, and six state runner-up finishes. He coached 23 individual state champions, and his athletes went on to win various NCAA titles and All-America honors, and one Olympic gold medal.
