ALL 8th GRADE STUDENTS:   This is great time to join HS Chorus.  With 21 seniors involved in HS Chorus graduating, we have some huge spots to fill for HS Chorus.  You may think that it is too late to change your schedule for next year.  Not true.  You may think that I already turned in my 4-year plan to Mrs. Askelsen, I can't change it.  Not true.  You may think that I wasn't out for 7th/8th chorus this year, so I can't go out for HS Chorus.  Not true.  You may think I am already out for HS band; I cannot be involved in both.  Not true.  You may think that you are not a great music reader or don't read music at all, I can't go out for HS Chorus.  Not true.  You may think that you are not a good singer, how will you ever improve?  Chorus is a great way to make friends and be united in song.  Please consider joining the HS Chorus.  WE NEED YOU!!!

 

CGD is participating in the summer food program again this year starting Mon., June 11 through Fri., Aug.3rd, with no meal on July 4th.  Times for serving lunches: 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.  The main hot meal will be served at the high school. Other locations will provide a sack lunch and one hot meal per week. Locations are: Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, the Clarion Aquatic Center and the Dows Swimming Pool.  Meal are free to all individuals 18 years of age or younger. Adults may also eat at a price of $3.55 per meal.

 

The Circus is coming to Belmond June 2nd and in honor of this, the Belmond Art Center is going to be displaying student artwork for a month. The only requirement is it is based off of the Circus. This could be drawings, paintings, Collage, Clay…exc. Please email Mrs. Downing for details if interested! *  7-12 Band students arrive @ the Middle School by 9:00 am for a short rehearsal.

*  The Band will be towards the front of the parade.  The parade begins at 10:00 am.

* Uniform:  Dress in a RED CGD shirt and shorts (khaki, if possible)

*  Music: “Illinois Loyalty” & “Drums N Roses” (drum cadence)

 

Sports

There will be a Cross Country meeting for 8th graders interested in high school XC. (This is separate from 6th/7th graders.) Meeting in Mrs. Hauptsteen's room on Thursday, May 24th at 12:45.

 

6th/7th grade: There will be a Cross Country meeting for next fall on Friday, May 25. 6th grade (next year 7th grade) will meet at 12:30; 7th grade (next year 8th grade) will meet at 12:45. Meeting will be in Mr. J. Klaver’s room.

 

There will be a meeting for any 6th or 7th grade student interested in going out for football next fall. The meeting will be on Tuesday, May 29 in Mr. Jackson’s room.  6th grade @ 12:30, 7th grade @ 12:45.

 

Weight lifting with Coach TerHark will be Tuesday and Thursday May 24, 29 and 31 in the morning at 6:45 a.m.  in the weight room with Mr. Jackson.  We are doing morning workouts because of softball games and drivers education.  Mr. Jackson will be taking attendance and your weight lifting sheets will be in the weight room.

Great job to the Cowgirl Track & Field Team last night in the NCC Track Meet! We ended the night with 5 conference championship events, including Matea Conlon in the 100 Meter Dash, Brynn Smith in the 400-meter dash, Brynn Smith in the long jump, the 7th grade 4x100 meter relay team of Lexie Lane, Matea Conlon, Ariana Iafoski, and Brynn Smith, and the 7th grade Sprint Medley Relay Team of Lexie Lane, Matea Conlon, Ariana Iafoski, and Brynn Smith. 2nd place finishers were Matea Conlon in the High Jump and Jadyn Nelson in the 200 Meter Dash. 3rd place included the 7th Grade Distance Medley Relay Team of Karlee Lehman, Lexie Lane, Lauren Hansch, and MaKayla Pulido, the 8th Grade Sprint Medley Relay Team of Kaylynn Nelson, McKayla Johnson, Jadyn Nelson, and Nikki Kapka, We are proud of all of our Cowgirl Track & Field team for their hard work and the many improvements shown throughout the season.

CGD Middle School Concert (MAY 10)

On Thursday, May 10, the CGD Middle School Music Department will present a concert at 7:00 p.m. in the CGDHS gym.  Featured groups are: 6thgrade chorus, select choir, 7th/8thgrade chorus, 6th grade band, jazz band, and the 7th/8th grade concert band.  Students need to report for vocal warm-ups and tuning of instruments at 6:30 p.m. Students are also reminded to wear dress clothes for the concert. (No jeans and t-shirts, please.)  This concert is open to the public, and there is no admission charge.

Just a reminder, baseball starts Monday.  Remember to bring in your permission forms.  Mr. Vorrie

 

Agility and weight lifting will be at 4:30 p.m. Tues May 8th and Thursday May 10th.

 

Weight lifting is on Tuesday and Thursday mornings @ 6:45 AM.

 

Attn: 6th & 7th Grade SB Players and parents.  Practices begin on Monday May 7.  Middle school will practice

right after school until 5:30 PM., with the exception on Monday, 7/7 practice will be from 6p-7:30p. Those MS softball players in track will come to softball AFTER track practice.  8th grade softball players will come to the high school practice which will begin at 6:00 PM and end at 8:00 PM.

 

6th – 8th grade girls’ open gym will resume on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s at 7:00 a.m. starting May 8, 2018.

 

Sign up has begun for City of Clarion Recreation Baseball and Softball summer programs.  Forms will be distributed to students this week and additional forms can be found on the City’s website www.clarioniowa.gov  .  Forms and fees are to be turned in at CITY HALL by May 7th.  Practice and game schedules will be set after May 14th, any further questions can be directed to City Hall at 532-2847.
